Classical Ballet makes up the major component of the courses studied and uses the Vaganova method of training considered the finest syllabus for classical ballet. Approximately 160 students from 9 years of age attend the College. Enrolment to the College Programme is by audition only.
The Vaganova method is a ballet technique and training system devised by the Russian dancer and pedagogue Agrippina Vaganova (1879-1951). The technique fuses elements of traditional French technique from the romantic era with the athleticism and virtuosity of Italian technique.
“Precision. Quiet power. Controlled strength. Regal carriage”
Vaganova-trained dancers are easy to spot:
Their technique is deeply internalised and their bodies naturally breathe
classical movement—a result of years of a highly structured class.
Agrippina Vaganova revolutionized the art of ballet with the technique that bears her name.
